Scientific production on the Archivematica system and the challenges of digital preservation in the national and international context

Abstract

Digital preservation is one of the themes that has been gaining increasing importance in research in the areas of Information Science and Computer Science. In the midst of a scenario of constant technological changes, in which software and hardware become obsolete at record speed, preserving document content has become a major challenge. In this scenario, the use of the Archivematica system stands out as a mechanism used to guarantee the authenticity, integrity and preservation of documents. To better understand this reality, this article proposed the following research problem: what are the characteristics of scientific production on the Archivematica system and the challenges of digital preservation in the national and international context? In this sense, the general objective of the work was to study the scientific production on Archivematica and digital preservation. The methodological procedures used the Systematic Literature Review and the research approach was qualitative. Five large databases were investigated, 2 (two) national and 3 (three) international. The results point to a certain incipience of publications on the subject and it is concluded that it is necessary to carry out and publish more studies that can record the best practices and use of Archivematica.
