The representation of assistive technologies in DDC

The Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC), despite its widespread use, has gaps in representing emerging topics, such as assistive technologies, which are essential for social inclusion. This article investigates the absence of the term "assistive technologies" in the DDC, analyzing its implications for information retrieval and the visibility of the topic. Through documentary analysis, it was found that these technologies are scattered across generic notations (e.g., 362.4, 371.9, 681.7), reinforcing their marginalization. The study concludes that the DDC requires revisions to incorporate contemporary terms, proposing local adaptations, institutional updates, and complementary systems.
